Get the Model look: Backstage at FashionCAN with MAC Cosmetics

Who doesn’t want to look like a model? Unfortunately I have no secrets to make us grow to be 5’11 sitting on 99 pounds BUT I do have the (not so) secret to get the makeup looks and trends we saw during the FashionCAN runway shows and how to get it at home, sans glam squad.

I was fortunate enough to hang out backstage with the MAC Cosmetics team and brief with Jane McKay-the head senior makeup artist for MAC Cosmetics about makeup trends for the season and specific looks before the shows.

One of my favorite trends we saw on the runway was a super fresh, glowy look with the main focus being on the skin and nothing else. This not only allows you to focus on the designers clothing but really accentuate the natural highlights on the skin. The fresh, dewy look is something we have seen on runways around the world and will continue to be a major trend this Spring/Summer. We saw this look during TMR by Tara, Sentaler and Whitney Linen.

To get these looks, Jane was using MAC Strobe Cream in “Goldlite” and MAC Extra Dimension Skinfinish “Double – Gleam” for an extra pop on your high points and on the eyelids.

To finish the natural look we had two types of lips we saw a lot of. The first was a matte lip that looked like your own lips but slightly accentuated the rosy look. For this look Jane was using MAC matte lipstick in “Velvet Teddy“. For a lighter look with just a shine, she was spotted using the MAC Lipglass lip gloss – a clear gloss that worked so perfectly with the fresh, natural, glowing looks we saw.

Another amazing trend we saw and love is the bold, bright lip. Coming into Spring/Summer we love to wear prints and bright colors so this works so well for the everyday girl. The FashionCAN runway had many bold lips, from a super deep plum to a brighter orange. The look that had everyone is awe was from the UNTTLD show, that gave us a very Japanese vibe with an intricate hair piece and a bold reddish orange lip that really popped on the runway. This lip would look amazing on many skin tones – and it worked well with the minimal matte face makeup. To get this look, Jane used MAC Matte Lipstick “Lady Danger”.

There you have it, how to get the model look. Super easy, right? Which trends are you excited to try this Spring?
